Augmented Reality (AR) Technician Internship is OPEN for applications!

Job Description:

The successful applicant will propose an augmented reality project that they will complete over the course of this paid internship. During the internship, the applicant will train under the supervision of our previous Production Director, a Quickdraw member who has experience with Augmented Reality technology. The intern will be expected to host two workshops in AR technology for our membership and their project will showcase for the first time at a Quickdraw event following the internship. The theme of the project will be left to the applicant to decide.

Timeline

Internship Start Date: 02/01/2021

Internship End Date: 08/28/2021

• Start date: February 2, 2021
• February-April: Research & Development
  • Three days/week
    • One day training in 3D animation.
    • One day training in AR technology.
    • One day working and experimenting with the tools and techniques they’re learning.
  • Deliverables:
    • A basic understanding of the software limitations.
    • A finalized project plan.
  • May-July: Project Development and facilitation training
    • Three days/week
      • One day training and prep in teaching and facilitating workshops/courses.
      • Two days a week working on their project proposal with monthly feedback meetings.
      • Participant will receive a private studio space with all the required equipment to work in.
      • Our Production Director will act as project supervisor for the duration of project development.
    • Deliverables:
      • Finished proof of concept.
      • Development of workshop curriculum
    • August: Final Development and Presentation
      • Three days/week
        • Participant will finish final adjustments on the project.
        • Participant will lead a workshop/presentation on what they’ve learned throughout their internship in AR technology for the Quickdraw membership.
      • Deliverables:
        • Quickdraw will have an AR project to showcase at festivals like BEAKERHEAD, Spectral Illuminations, Particle & Wave, and/or the Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival (GIRAF).
        • A workshop in AR will be held for the membership to be able to utilize our AR technology.
        • The participant will be able to take this experience to future job opportunities in the augmented reality and virtual technology fields or use it to further enhance their own artistic practice.

Applicant Requirements:

• Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship;
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e. citizen, permanent resident or refugee status);
• Self-identify as underemployed (i.e. employed below their level of education, holding part-time employment, or in emerging fields with few jobs);
• Have completed post-secondary studies;
• Have no immediate family relationship with the employer.

Though not required, prior animation experience is strongly recommended.

Compensation:

This is a PAID opportunity. The successful applicant will receive a total of $15,828.00 for 21 hours per week over a total of 30 weeks. This works out to $22.50/hr.
