Woezo Africa is excited to present Roots to Branches, an animation project for African, Carribean and Black youth. This project is the first of its kind in Canada. We want to give a platform for Calgary based youth to share their experiences with racism and discrimination – and we want you to join us.

Why animation?

Animation is accessible to many, despite differences like age or culture. This allows for creative freedom when talking about the nuances of lived experience. We want policy makers, government and other systems like healthcare and education to see these nuances. Animation can help us connect in ways that we couldn’t portray through any other medium.

Why join?

We’re looking to hire Black animators of all styles. With a growing market in seeking underrepresented stories, we want to help you build your portfolio with a project that fits this market. Post-production, this will be presented to larger local and provincial systems at all levels. Whether that be in the classroom or the board room, this project will be far reaching in important places.

The time commitment is flexible! These projects will be done on a rolling basis, so you can work at your own pace.

Collaborating with local Black youth, and helping to bring their stories to light. For a lot of our applicants, these stories never get a platform. We want to change that.

If this sounds like something that interests you, please reach out to our project coordinator at: rootstobranches@woezoafrica.com. Feel free to send us your portfolio or other samples, and a little bit about yourself. We look forward to hearing from you!
