The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is an artist-run charitable organization dedicated to facilitating excellence in the moving image through media arts education and production resources. LIFT exists to provide support and encouragement for independent filmmakers and artists through affordable access to production, post-production and exhibition equipment; professional and creative development; workshops and courses; commissioning and exhibitions; artist-residencies; and a variety of other services. TECHNICAL ADMINISTRATOR
$18.50 per hour
40 hours per week (5 days)
Projected start date is Monday, September 20, 2021
One year renewable contract, with a six-month probationary period
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING TECHNICAL STAFF ACTIVITIES:
– Administration tasks related to the rental, maintenance, and purchase of film and digital production and post-production equipment and facilities
– Administration tasks related to LIFT’s Store
– Assisting with the coordination of equipment for LIFT workshops and community programs
– Arranging orientations for LIFT members who wish to rent equipment and facilities
– Coordinating outsourcing of additional maintenance and repair of LIFT equipment
– Communications with LIFT members regarding equipment and facilities
– Administration of digital post-production suites and digital classrooms
– Developing efficiencies for booking and shipping workflows
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires the ability to multitask and take on multiple responsibilities. LIFT has a very small staff providing services to over 600 members averaging 1,000 productions annually. LIFT staff may be called upon to assist in all aspects of the day-to-day operations.
The ideal candidate will have some or all of the following qualifications:
– Good knowledge of motion picture production requirements
– Knowledge of the Macintosh platform required, Windows skills a strong asset
– Knowledge of database software, WordPress and WooCommerce
– Some prior experience teaching workshops or classes related to filmmaking
– Prior administrative and customer service experience
Additional Assets:
– Understanding of Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm film and HD digital cameras and projection equipment
– Technical knowledge of digital and traditional film production and editing equipment
– Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro
– Knowledge of audio equipment for location and studio production
– Knowledge of darkroom maintenance and hand processing of motion picture film
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
– Excellent communication skills (with co-workers, LIFT members, and the public) are required for this position
– The ideal candidate is a self-directed team-worker, who is able to function in a very busy and hectic multitasking work environment
– The candidate should have a strong interest in the art of film and be committed to supporting independent filmmaking in all its forms
– Familiarity with LIFT is a definite asset
– A strong desire to work in an artist-run media production centre is an asset
TECHNICAL COORDINATOR
$18.50 per hour
24-32 hours per week (3-4 days)
Projected start date is Monday, September 20, 2021

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING TECHNICAL STAFF ACTIVITIES:
– Maintenance and administration of digital post-production suites and digital classrooms
– Maintenance, cleaning and minor repairs on film and video production equipment and traditional film post-production facilities
– Administration tasks related to the rental, maintenance, and purchase of film/digital production and post-production equipment and facilities
– Administration tasks related to LIFT’s Store
– Preparation of Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm film and HD digital camera packages and lighting, grip and other equipment for rental by LIFT members
– Assisting with the coordination of equipment for LIFT workshops and community programs
– Arranging orientations for LIFT members who wish to rent equipment and facilities
– Coordinating outsourcing of additional maintenance and repair of LIFT equipment
– Communications with LIFT members regarding equipment and facilities
– Technical support for digital and traditional film production and editing equipment
QUALIFICATIONS:

– Knowledge of: 16mm cameras, including Bolex, Aaton XTR Prod Super 16mm, Arri SR II; 35mm cameras, including Arri III, BLIV, Konvas; HD cameras including Sony EX1 and F3, Blackmagic Cinema and RED Epic cameras; knowledge of production lighting and grip gear; experience working with and understanding of projection equipment for Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm and Digital Cinema Packages (DCP)
– Knowledge of Oxberry 16mm/35mm Animation Cameras; JK Optical Printer; Oxberry 1700 Optical Printer, Steenbeck and Intercine flatbed editing systems
– Knowledge of Arduino, Pure Data, Max/MSP and electronics in general
– Knowledge of Sound Recording equipment, including Sound Devices mixers and recorders, shotgun and lavalier microphone and accessories
– Electronics knowledge of audio equipment for location and studio production
– Knowledge of darkroom maintenance and hand processing of motion picture film
– Experience with construction, machining and gallery installation a strong asset
– Knowledge of how database software works
– Knowledge of WordPress and WooCommerce
– Prior experience teaching workshops or classes related to filmmaking
– Prior administrative and customer service experience
– Knowledge of product photography
– Critical thinking and problem solving skills
